Sparks - Lil' Beethoven

Die Sparks sind eine amerikanische Rockband um die Brüder Ron (12.08.45) und Russel Mael (05.10.48), die Ende der 60er Jahre in Los Angeles gegründet wurde und bis heute besteht.
Die Sparks habven zwischen 1971 und 2009 ca. 25 Alben veröffentlicht und dabei immer wieder neue Stilrichtungen eingeschlagen. Der kommerzielle Erfolg blieb zwar überschaubar, dennoch haben die Sparks ihren Platz in der Musikgeschichte. Auf Bands wie Queen, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Erasure und vermutlich auch Yello hatte die Musik der Sparks Einfluß.
Mancher Kritiker bewertet die Sparks als Avantgarde-Version der (kommerziell allerdings wesentlich erfolgreicheren) Pet Shop Boys.

Die CD aus dem Jahr 2002 "Lil' Beethoven" ist eine Mischung aus teils mehrstimmigem Acapella, Synthie-Pop, Rock kombiniert mit ironischen Texten.
Typisch für den Sparks-Sound ist Russell Mael's Falsettstimme.
